Highland Canine Connect Launches Essay Contest

Highland Canine Connect, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has launched an Essay Contest for Iredell-Statesville schools. The winning school will be the recipient of a fully-trained therapy dog.

Through Highland Canine Connect’s School Reading Program, schools in the local area have seen the immense benefit that dogs can bring to the classroom. The presence of canine companions around children has been shown to boost confidence and reduce stress.

Read on to learn everything you need to know about the Essay Contest, including the topic of the essay and entry criteria.

Essay Details

Students should produce a 300-500 word essay on the following topic:

How could your school benefit from having a therapy dog, and what do you feel you can learn from a dog in the classroom?

Entry Details

  • Entries can be submitted in two ways:

    Email: connect@highlandcanineconnect.org
    Mail: Highland Canine Connect Essay Contest, 145 Foxfield Dr, Harmony, NC 28634

  • The deadline for submissions is Monday May 1, 2023.
  • Students should include their full name, age, grade and school on the essay.
  • Winners will be chosen by Monday May 15, 2023. Highland Canine Connect will notify the winning school.
