On September 28th, 2019, Highland Canine Connect will be offering AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluations to the public!

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title is a valuable asset to any dog owners who are interested in pursuing therapy dog work, need additional evidence that their dog is well trained enough to reside on a college campus or in an apartment or just desire the satisfaction of knowing that their dog possesses a legitimate AKC title recognizing quality training and strongly developed social skills.

The AKC CGC is a test combining the mastery of ten skills deemed necessary to exhibit that a dog is a safe and well mannered citizen of the community. The CGC title is recognized throughout the entire USA as verification of a dog’s temperament and obedience skill set.

The CGC is also aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership by requiring participating dog owners to sign a “Responsible Dog Ownership” pledge – a badge of honor for any dog owner who loves their pup!

The AKC developed the Canine Good Citizen evaluation in an effort to help positively impact communities across the nation by incentivizing dog owners to invest the time and care required to develop a socially sound, healthy and happy dog. The program advocates responsible dog ownership and is recognized nationally as a solid standard for dogs and their owners. Unlike many of the AKC’s other title programs, the CGC is open to any dog, of any gender, breed or age. The Canine Good Citizen title can only be attained through the evaluation of a certified AKC CGC evaluator.

Highland Canine Connect would like to offer all dog owners in our community the opportunity to have their dog evaluated. If you have worked hard with your pup’s training and feel as if they are ready to take the next step, join us on Saturday, September 28th at 10:00am at 162 Early Lane, Harmony NC 28634 to have your dog evaluated. A $25.00 donation to Highland Canine Connect is required from each participant. Volunteer opportunities with Highland Canine Connect may be available for participants who pass the CGC evaluation.

If you have any questions about the event, please contact Sherry Peel at (252) 732-5626, or email HK9 Connect at connect@highlandcanine.com. You can also sign up your pup on the Facebook event page!
